WinLocate Example Usages

So, where's Bob?

Scenario - Bob is an outside sales rep for your company. You supply a laptop for Bob so he can keep in touch with customers and the office while he is on the road.

The problem - Bob is supposed to be in Phoenix today, but the customer he is supposed to visit just called and has not seen Bob.

The solution - You log into your WinLocate account and click on Bobs computer. You click on Bob's computer name to check Bob's current location and lo and behold, Bob is in a hotel in Las Vegas! Bob has some explaining to do!

We're thinking of implementing telecommuting in our business. How can we be sure that telecommuters are working from home?

Scenario - With the high cost of gas these days, your employees are interested in telecommuting options.

The problem - Sometimes telecommuters are perceived, rightly or wrongly, as not working as hard as those in a normal office environment. This can cause dissent among workers who do not telecommute. On the other hand, invasive monitoring of telecommuters' work-at-home habits will probably have a detrimental effect on their morale.

The solution - WinLocate has a useful feature that allows you to select the days and times when you want it to report computer activity. Plus, it is non-invasive in that it simply reports activity levels. While it detects key presses and mouse clicks, it does not actually record actual keyboard input, screen captures, or personal information whatsoever. Telecommuters welcome the opportunity to provide proof that they are performing as well as their office bound counterparts. WinLocate lets this happen, and with no loss of privacy. WinLocate lets you compare activity levels between office employees as well as others working off site while maintaining morale among the troops.

Who's working harder?

Scenario - Jim and Mary are customer service reps for your company and their jobs include answering customer email inquiries. When you walk by their desks, they both seem to be working at the same rate of productivity.

The problem - Customers are complaining that they are not always getting the information they need or in a timely manner. How can you tell whether Jim or Mary is being productive?

The solution - You log into your WinLocate account and click on Jim's computer then Mary's. You compare the keystrokes per minute and you see that Mary types twice as much as Jim. You also see that Jim uses much more bandwidth than Mary. What is going on? Well, Jim probably spends more time surfing the Internet and Mary spends more time and provides more detailed answers when responding to customer email.

My laptop was stolen! Can WinLocate help find it?

Scenario - Your laptop was stolen from your car. You submit a police report and they tell you that the odds of recovering your laptop are virtually non-existent.

The problem - Your insurance company will cover the cost of your laptop, but you have a couple of years of personal data on it, and you would like to get your laptop back!

The solution - You log into your WinLocate account and click on your computer. You click on the "Alert me" link and tell WinLocate to notify you as soon as your computer comes online. Eventually, the thief or whoever he sold the computer to will try to connect to the Internet. As soon as they do, you will receive an email and you can log into your WinLocate account and print out the information the police will need to locate the exact address where your computer can be recovered!

I think someone is using my computer when I'm not there! Will WinLocate tell me?

Scenario - You notice that things seem to be different on your computer and suspect someone is using your computer when you are away.

The problem - Maybe this is your personal home computer, or maybe you work in a small office where forced logins and complicated security measures are not necessary. In cases like these it is easy for someone to simply turn the computer on do whatever they want to, and the risk of discovery is minimal. Maybe it's the babysitter, the housekeeper, the janitor or a co-worker. Knowing what times your computer was used would allow you to take the necessary steps to prevent the problem from happening again.

The solution - You can install WinLocate on your own computer and you will be able to see when your computer was turned on, when someone logged in, and get details on how long it was in use and the level of activity. Even if you are on vacation, you can still log into your WinLocate account and check to see if your computer is being used.
