WinLocate Installation Instructions And Help

Step 1:

Getting Ready
Ensure that you have your invoice from purchasing WinLocate.  There will be a Customer ID in an email sent title "WinLocate Download Information".  You will need this number each time you install WinLocate.

Keep it safe!
Step 2:

Downloading
Download the WinLocate setup file by going to http://www.winlocate.com
and click on "Download Area".  You can either run the file from the website if you browser allows, or save the setup file to your Desktop, and run it from there.

You may also use the installation file downloaded on any other computers that you wish to install WinLocate on and licenses have been purchased for.
Step 3:

Running the Setup
If you saved the file instead of running the installation from the website, double click the WinLocate setup file.  For Windows users, it will be named setupwl.exe.  For Mac OS X users, it will be named WinLocate.dmg (when released).
Step 4:

Running Continued
When the setup file is run, you will be presented with a screen that gives you a choice between Personal Computers and Network Administrators.

Virtually all users will want to use the Personal Computers option
.
Step 5:

Basic Installation
Next, we need to configure WinLocate.

In the top two boxes that ask for your Customer ID, type in your Customer ID that was sent in your WinLocate Download Information email.  Type the number in exactly, with no extra spaces or characters present.

Then, the next input field allows you to specify a machine identifier.  Most users should probably leave this blank, as WinLocate will automatically use your Windows Networking name.  If you wish to use an alternate identifier, specify it here.

The final option on this screen is the input field for specifying a group.  This is typically used by companies or large organizations that have many computers, and they want to group the machines for reporting purposes.  Home users should typically leave this option blank.

Step 6:

Advanced Settings
The Advanced Button in the setup interface offers several functions:

Reporting Days/Times:

If you wish to have WinLocate report during certain time periods, hold down the left mouse button, and drag it over the cells that represent the times you wish reporting to occur.  Blue cells indicate no reports during that time, green cells indicate you wish to report during that time.  Leaving all cells blue tells WinLocate to report during all times of the day.

Time Synchronization Options:

WinLocate uses an internal clock for reporting, to minimize issues with misconfigured clocks.  You should always have the "Synchronize Internal Clock" option checked, unless otherwise instructed.  Additionally, WinLocate can set your computer clock each time it synchronizes for it's own purposes by checking the "Synchronize Computer Time" box.

There is also a Proxy Settings button within the setup program.  If you know that you need to access a proxy to communicate with external websites, you must enter your proxy settings.  If you do not, WinLocate will not be able to validate your license status.

Step 7:

Firewall Settings

If you have a firewall on your network, the following UDP ports must be opened for WinLocate to be able to send reports, and synchronize it's internal clock.  The ports are:

37,514

Step 8:

    Configure your Web Account
